REKA Chef Sdn Bhd Launches The BETA Version Of REKA Chef, The First Food Social Media App in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur – October 18, 2022 – Reka Chef Sdn Bhd released the BETA version of its social media app to its internal stakeholders and staff within the company’s group and some private guests during its launch party.

REKA Chef, a food social media app, is a solution to the several problems identified having gathered data from all walks of life across Malaysia through its research and feedback received over the past 15 months. It is a platform that is fun and easy to use by food lovers, devouring food information and images while being to sell and or purchase their favourite dish. It is a newsfeed type of solution, and not the ordinary boring and confusing Catalogue. Designed as a digital space for the foodie community to explore and celebrate food, it also hopes to create a virtual restaurant where everyone can dine in. Apart from that it is a hassle free and all in one system for sellers to track their sales and are not limited to geographical boundaries, a function that is unique and currently in the process of being patented.

In April 2021, Rakuten published their findings that the Malaysia online food delivery market is expected to reach over 319.1 Million USD by 2028 and the Market is expected to grow at a Compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over +19% during the forecasted period. “And we hope to contribute to that amount, through uniting chefs and culinarians in our gastronomic haven!” says Founder and Chief Marketing Officer, Michelle de la Harpe during her welcome speech.

Further adding, she said “We must accept that Social media has become a communication platform. I am extremely excited with today’s launch as our team worked extremely hard since the day of conceptualisation 15 months ago. We had to go back to the drawing board several times, adjust the pitch and changes in the functions and action plans but sticking to the ultimate goal, after compiling feedback and even sometimes tearful meetings with investors and pitching gurus, while not forgetting the needs and wants of chefs, home based sellers and of course a foodies out there. Today, we have started the first 1st round of funding and even received a grant from MDEC! Although we are both IT nerds, we come from different backgrounds, but Henry and I share a common goal, to create a  SOCIAL IMPACT. We wanted people to come together virtually as a means of building a community and provide an infrastructure to upgrade current sellers and help them build an income to support loss of livelihoods. By doing so, we touched the mental and economical aspects in life. “

Michelle who is a home baker herself, wanted to celebrate the launch by supporting SMEs and other local bakers and encouraged those at the event to take and upload amazing yummy shots under the community section of its app, hoping that they would continue to support them. She was also thrilled that the same caterers supported her in making this a single use plastic-free event.

Chief technology officer, Henry Lim said, “today is the start of an exciting journey which we know will be challenging and we look forward to your support by giving me direct feedback so that we can fix it immediately and improve towards our goal of going global.”

The event was attended by staff of MWAG, special guests that included Maxis, Reskills and a few close clients. The official media was Media Prima and The Page.
